As a Blogger it is a good idea to hop on board the DoFollow movement. Because Blogger and WorPress come with nofollow built in you will have to do a little work (it’s easy work) to change your blog to DoFollow.

Google Blogger users:
Go into your Blogger back office then;
* Click on Layout .
* Click on the Edit HTML .
* Check the “Expand Widget Templates Field” upper right hand corner of the HTML.
* Press CTRL+F and a search box will appear then do a search for rel=”nofollow”
attribute.

* Delete and remove all instances of rel=”nofollow” from the template code.

This will make your Blog a DoFollow Blogger Blog.

The next step and a very important one. Set your blog comments to require your approval, moderation before posting to your Blog. This will allow you to delete all spam before it appears.

Download this PlugIn from Kimmo Suominen, WP DoFollow PlugIn and install it in your plugins.

To kill most of the Spam make sure you have installed Askimet and set your comments to require moderation.

In my last post I mentioned being labeled as a Spamer and I’ll explain how now. Most Blogs that have good page rank and page views use Askimet. If a comment is found to be Spam the Blog owner can and will in most cases label it as Spam. This will cause your URL and IP to be put in Askimets data base and all of your future comments will be caught and tagged Spam. You will not be able to use that website or the same IP to comment with from that point on.

When you are building your online business most of us understand and know the importance of backlinks. They play a large part in our page rank and our search engine positioning. Of course there are many other things you have to do to accomplish these goals but blog commenting should play an important part in your strategy.

Your Commenting Strategy

1. Do not comment on Blogs that use No-Follow Tags for the purpose of gaining backlinks

The majority of Blogs at one time used No-Follow and many still do especially new blogs. This causes search engines to avoid your link so you gain nothing from your comments as far as backlinks. Although, a good thought out comment can draw attention and bring visitors to your website. Blogger blogs have No-follow built in and it has to be disabled by the Blog owner. WordPress is the same way and No-follow has to be disabled by either using a DoFollow plug-in or by removing nofollow from the code.

If you are commenting for backlinks make sure the blogs you comment on are do-follow if they are no-follow blogs, as the majority of new blogs are, you will not gain a backlink.

2. You want to comment on Blogs that have some page rank. This will help you gain link juice back to your site..

Look for pages on a blogs that have a Page rank of 2 or above. Just remember that it will take 4 times the effort for your comment to rate on blogs with a rank of 1-3 than it will for blogs of 4 and above. You can get an idea of how Page Rank works here, Wikipedia page rank

3. You need to vary your anchor text and keywords.

If you are trying to gain backlinks to a home business site for Affiliate marketing you will want to use keywords such as “Internet Based Affiliate marketing, Home based business ideas, legitimate home business, and so on. Use different keywords in the Name Field of your comment and always change them up. Do not use the same text over and over again. Be sure your anchor text is descriptive.

4. Do not put links to your site in the context itself

Adding links in your comment text is considered Spam and can get you banned from many blogs.

5. Be consistent with your commenting.

Search engines like to see a steady consistent growth with backlinks. They need to look natural. Don’t just build thousands of backlinks over night. Instead build 10 or so everyday.

Blogs do not have to be exactly the same as your website. Look for blogs with similar themes that will compliment your sites theme and comment on those blogs as well.

2. Look for blogs with a higher page rank.

3. Make sure the blog you are commenting on use Do-follow
The best tool to use to do this is SEO For FireFox. Oh, if you are not using FireFox you need to start today.

4. Make sure and verify the page you are on has page rank.

5. Make sure you comment respectfully and insightfully.

The blogs you want to comment on are DoFollow and will give you the desired backlinks. When commenting make sure your comment is relative to the post and not just “great post or some such wording. Your comments should reflect the subject of the post and they should show you have read the article. Show the Blog owners respect by commenting respectfully.

Do not put links in your comments. Using keywords and then linking them uis simply comment spamming and is very disrespectful. It can also get you banned from the blog and many blog communities. If you get labeled as a spammer it will be hard to overcome. You can use your Keywords in the “Name” Field and it will automatically be linked to your website. Just make sure you are using a link strategy and do not use the same keywords every time. You can put your name in the same field as your city and State when appropriate.
